New Construction & Retrofit

Pre-wiring during construction costs a fraction of retrofitting later, but most buildings need work in an occupied space. We do both — coordinating with general contractors on new builds and sequencing retrofits around your business hours.

WHAT THIS INCLUDES:

  • New-construction pre-wire before drywall
  • Retrofits in occupied offices
  • Coordination with general contractors
  • Work sequenced around business hours
  • Clean removal of abandoned cable

Certified Testing

Cable that was never tested is a guess. Every run we install is certified with Fluke equipment and delivered with test reports, so you have proof the infrastructure performs to standard rather than a promise.

WHAT THIS INCLUDES:

  • Fluke certification on every run
  • Test reports delivered to you
  • TIA/EIA standards compliance
  • Fiber testing with OTDR where applicable
  • Re-testing after any repair

Full Documentation

The difference between a cheap job and a professional one shows up two years later, when someone needs to trace a cable. We label both ends of every run and hand over as-built documentation and rack diagrams.

WHAT THIS INCLUDES:

  • Every run labeled at both ends
  • As-built drawings and port maps
  • Rack elevation diagrams
  • Digital copies you keep
  • Updated whenever we add drops

One integrated platform

How It All Connects

Your Structured Cabling & Low Voltage does not work in isolation — and it should not. Under one integrated platform, the same network that carries your cameras also runs your phones, your door access and your Wi-Fi: one PoE switch, one firewall, one login on your phone. Because Stratos designs and installs every layer ourselves, the pieces are built to work together from day one instead of bolted together by four different vendors. Here is how a typical Stratos system connects:

Prefer a specific platform? We deploy and integrate the Ubiquiti UniFi, Cisco Meraki, Aruba ecosystems end to end.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does structured cabling cost per drop in Houston?

Per-drop pricing is misleading because labor conditions dominate the real cost: ceiling height, pathway access, plenum requirements and distance to the telecom room. We quote a fixed price after a free site survey, so the number already reflects your building — not an average that changes on installation day.

Do you certify and document your cabling work?

Yes. Every run is tested and certified with Fluke equipment, labeled at both ends, and delivered with test reports and as-built documentation. That documentation is what makes future moves, adds and changes cheap instead of chaotic.

Can you cable an office that is already occupied and working?

Yes — most of our retrofit work happens in live offices. We did a full telecom room overhaul and Cat6 expansion for a freight logistics company with zero downtime, sequencing the work so staff never lost connectivity during business hours.

Should I run Cat6 or Cat6A in a new office?

Cat6 covers most offices today. We recommend Cat6A when you need 10 Gbps to workstations, long PoE runs for cameras and Wi-Fi 6 access points, or extra headroom in healthcare and industrial environments. We price both options in the survey so you can decide with real numbers.

Do you do new-construction pre-wire for builders and GCs?

Yes — pre-wire is the most cost-effective moment to cable a building, and we coordinate directly with general contractors. For a residential construction project's a residential apartment complex we pre-wired the entire complex with Cat6, telephone and RG6 coax, fully labeled and terminated at a central panel.

Structured Cabling in Houston: How We Work

Cabling is the one part of your technology stack you should only have to pay for once. That is why every structured cabling project we run in Greater Houston starts with a walkthrough: we trace existing pathways, check ceiling access and plenum requirements, count real drop locations instead of estimating from a floor plan, and hand you a fixed quote. On installation day our own technicians — never subcontractors — pull, terminate, test and label every run, and you receive Fluke certification reports and as-built documentation when we leave.

We handle new construction pre-wire, occupied-office retrofits and messy inherited closets. For a residential construction project's a residential apartment complex complex we pre-wired every unit with Cat6, telephone and RG6 coax before drywall — the cheapest possible moment to cable a building. For a freight logistics company we did the opposite job: untangling years of undocumented growth in a live telecom room, re-labeling every run and adding new Cat6 drops without taking the network down.

Cat6, Cat6A or Fiber: Choosing the Right Backbone

Most Houston offices are well served by Cat6; Cat6A earns its premium where you need 10 Gbps to the desk, long PoE runs for cameras and access points, or a medical environment like a Houston medical diagnostics facility, where we ran Cat6A throughout. Fiber enters the conversation for building-to-building links and high-bandwidth backbones — at a Houston distribution campus we connected the main server rack to the warehouse rack over fiber and distributed 50+ drops and ten access points from there. We will tell you plainly when the cheaper cable is the right call.

What Drives the Cost of a Cabling Project

Drop count is the obvious factor, but labor is where quotes really differ: ceiling height and type, pathway congestion, plenum vs. non-plenum spaces, occupied vs. empty floors, distance from the telecom room, and whether your existing racks can be reused or need a rebuild. A 16-drop office like the one we cabled for a growing Houston office is a very different job from a mall retail buildout like a national retail chain, where runs had to reach every POS terminal without disrupting store hours. After the site survey, the number we give you is fixed.

Where We Install

From our base in Katy we run structured cabling projects across the entire Houston metro — Houston, Sugar Land, Cypress, Spring, The Woodlands, Pearland and Conroe — and we replicate standards across multiple sites, as we did for a multi-city logistics company in both Houston and Atlanta. If your business is expanding, we can pre-plan the cabling standard once and reuse it at every location.
